Shiatsu
Shiatsu, which translates as finger pressure, is a form of healing massage developed in Japan in the early 20th century, but dates much further back to Traditional Chinese Medicine and the keen awareness of the subtle energy of the body, called “Chi”.
The belief is, that if the energy flow is in harmony, then health and balance are maintained. Finger pressure is applied to various energy pathways or “Meridians” to unblock stagnant Chi. Stretches and rotations loosen the joints and open the channels, which improve the flow of “Chi”. The benefits attained from Shiatsu are numerous and the list is long. Many people experience a feeling of groundedness or relaxation. Many have much greater posture as a result. For many, the result is a much wider awareness of the Body and a better ability to understand what your body is saying to you. Shiatsu massage is traditionally done on a mat on the floor or in a chair. The client is usually clothed as no oils or lotions are applied. This style of massage is not only healthy and relaxing but is also perfect for our contemporary, fast-paced culture due to the need for very little preparation.
